Summer Reading

Summer reading is back, a bit of the customary in these unsettling times. If you took advantage of ebooks last year, that is wonderful!

This year, the district has made the ebook app called Sora available to you through Classlink, using your school account. It makes the District ebook collection available, which is small. However, if you “Add a Library,” as the Sora site offers, and tap the three bars on the right side, and ask for Mid-Hudson Library System, the entire public library ebook collection will become available to you through your school account!

So even if you do not have a public library card, you can access ebooks through Sora. We encourage you to get a public library card anyway to allow you to enjoy the wonderful programs they offer in the summer and throughout the year.

You are to read a minimum of two books this summer. We encourage you to continue to read on a regular basis and to discover new authors and books to enjoy. For two of the books you read, you are to complete a novel outline. In September, your new English teacher will be collecting these outlines.

The reading list includes ebook (digital books) options that are available through the public library ebook apps, Hoopla and Overdrive, and now Sora. The list includes titles that appeal to a wide range of interests. This book list has been distributed to all local libraries.

Also, the State Education Department and myON are partnering to bring thousands of enhanced digital books to children from birth through 8th grade and their families all around the state! To take advantage of this excellent opportunity, additional information is available on the myOn website.

Have a great summer and enjoy this opportunity to read great books! We look forward to discussing your selections with you in September. If you have any questions about the summer reading program, please feel free to contact the school at (845) 228-2300.
