Reporting an Absence
Parents/guardians will receive an attendance call when their child is absent, no matter what the reason. Parent/guardians will no longer call to report student absences. The parent/guardian will then be asked to send a written documentation of the reason for the absence with your child when they return to school. At GFMS students will give the note to their homeroom teacher.
Student Pick-up Procedure
When picking up your child from school, please have photo ID available. You will be asked to show your license or other photo ID each time you arrive to pick up a student. Students need a note from a parent if they are being picked up by someone other than a parent or guardian.
With student safety in mind, parents will not be able to pick up their children in the main lobby between 2:15 - 2:45 PM. These pickups will occur in the rear of the building in the small cafeteria. Students will not be released into the upper or lower parking lots during the 2:30 bus dismissal.
If you have outside appointments for your child in the afternoon, please plan on being here prior to 2:15 to expedite the pickup. Small cafeteria pick-ups will coincide with student dismissal, thus picking a student up between 2:15 and 2:30 from the main office will be only in cases of emergency (Please call the main office in advance at 228-2300 ext. 503 or 525). After 2:45, students will be in our main lobby for parent pick-up.
Parents and Community members who have appointments with school personnel will still be able to enter the building in the main lobby 2:15 – 2:45.
In an emergency situation, students who request travelling on another bus are required to have a signed permission note from a parent or guardian. The note must include the first and last name of your child and the first and last name of the student they will be travelling with and their bus number.
