Writing & Word Study
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Writing: The development of writing skills is going to be an important part of this course. Narrative, Informational, Argument/Opinion, and Literary Essay “Styles of Writing” will be explored. Emphasis on thinking deeply and supporting claims with evidence, along with rules for proper grammar, capitalization, and punctuation, will be taught in class. Parents can help by holding their child accountable for proper spelling, grammar, and punctuation in their writing endeavors in all subject areas.
Word Study: Students will be actively engaged in the study of words. Both spelling and vocabulary lessons will be taught. Lessons will include instruction on how changing the suffix of a word changes its part of speech; and therefore, it also changes the word’s meaning and its proper grammatical use.
Reinforcing proper grammar and encouraging deep thinking in daily conversations will also go a long way toward developing strong literacy skills.
Your feedback is always appreciated.
