GFMS Weekly Update 10/2/26

Dear GFMS Families,

It has been another busy and productive week at George Fischer Middle School. Thank you to our students and staff for continuing to demonstrate care, responsibility, and a strong commitment to keeping our school community safe.

Fire Drill
We completed a successful fire drill today. Our students and staff did a great job following directions, moving efficiently, and demonstrating the expected safety procedures. We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and attention to safety.

Town Hall Assembly — October 8
On Thursday, October 8, we will hold a Town Hall Assembly with our students. During the assembly, administration will review grade-level expectations and discuss the strengths and areas for growth we are seeing across each grade. These conversations are an important part of helping students understand our shared expectations and continue to build a positive school community.

Lockdown Drill — October 9
As required by New York State, schools conduct lockdown drills as part of their emergency preparedness procedures. A lockdown is a safety procedure in which students and staff remain inside classrooms or other designated secure areas, doors are secured, and movement throughout the building is restricted. The purpose of a lockdown drill is to ensure that students and staff understand the procedures and can respond calmly and appropriately during an emergency.

Parent-Teacher Conferences — October 22
Our Parent-Teacher Conferences will take place on Thursday, October 22. Families will have the option to participate either virtually or in person. Sign-ups will open on October 13. We encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with teachers, discuss student progress, and work together to support our students.
